Poll Results: Readers Voted for a New Business to Move Next to the Library

More than half voted for the clear winner.

A few weeks ago we asked readers what type of business they would like to see move into the empty retail space at 1473 Ellinwood Ave., which is next to the Des Plaines library.

As of May 1, 103 readers voted in the poll between a café, coffee shop, copy/shipping store and juice bar. The winner, with 61 votes, 59 percent of the total, was a coffee shop.

In second place was a café. To view all the results, click the “View Results” button to the right of the “Submit” button at the bottom of the poll.

Earlier: Find out what type of business readers voted should move into the Metropolitan Square space formerly occupied by Coldstone Creamery.

Reader Nancy Nalbandian added in the comments section, “What I would really like to see is a Caribou Coffee shop because there isn't one in Des Plaines. Mt. Prospect has everything. Caribou has beverages not available at a Starbucks and there are plenty of Starbucks nearby. Otherwise a little cafe would be nice for more choices on where to grab a bite to eat. Maybe something healthy.”

The leasing agent for the space, George Kourafas, vice president of Comar Properties in Oak Brook Terrace, said, currently, there was not a tenant with plans to occupy the space.

They had a cafe there once before. But since it wasn't a chain store, it didn't last too long. I don't understand why once we finally get a "chain store" the city goes on over kill and gets 3. No matter what kind of store. 2 starbucks, on the same road, half block from dd.? 2 little ceasers? 3 mcd's? Ect... Really that makes no sense.
