Photo of the Day: High School Students Treat Passers-by to a Taste of ‘1776’

Northridge Prep students will perform the musical “1776” at Leela Arts Center in Des Plaines on Friday and Saturday.

If you were downtown near Lee Street shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, you might have heard an impromptu high school band performance. Students from Northridge Preparatory School, 8320 Ballard Road in Niles, stepped outside Leela Arts Center, 620 Lee Street, for a breath of fresh air and to practice a piece from the musical they will be performing there on Friday and Saturday, 1776 by Sherman Edwards.

Earlier: Picnics, dancing once considered a nuisance in Northwestern Park.

Performances are at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The show is open to the public and tickets at the door are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
