Photo Gallery: Hundreds Gather At 9/11 Memorial Dedication

The Patriot Day Ceremony in downtown Des Plaines was drenched in warm sunlight as the community observed the 10th anniversary of the tragedy.

Hundreds of firefighters, police officers, veterans, public officials and Des Plaines residents gathered at the Civic Center in front of City Hall Sunday. The Patriot Day ceremony was held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and included the unveiling of a new 9/11 memorial.

Speeches were made by a number of officials including Deputy Fire Chief Ron Eiken, Mayor Martin Moylan, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Navy Commander Lee Donaldson and Father Charlie Schlax of the Des Plaines Ministerial Association.
