Monday Blotter: More Than $7K in Jewelry Stolen

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.

Theft from a Private Residence

Police were dispatched for a theft report in the 900 block of South Webster Lane at 9:32 p.m. on Jan.28. According to the report, sometime between 8 a.m. on Jan. 25 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 28 an unknown offender removed jewelry with an estimated property loss of $7,725 from a residence.

Earlier: Controlled substances and burglary.

Intoxicated Pedestrian in Roadway & Disorderly Conduct

Police responded to a report of public consumption of alcohol at the train depot, 1501 Miner St., on Jan. 26 at 6:05 p.m. According to the report, the responding officer spoke to a witness who claimed that two men were drinking alcoholic beverages in public. The responding officer approached the two men, later identified as Noel Liberty and Robert Brodwinske, reporting that both appeared to be intoxicated and both had a strong odor of alcohol on their breath. Because the officer did not witness either man drinking alcohol at the time, he instructed the men to go home, and both left the area.

At around 6:30 p.m., police responded to a disorderly conduct report at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St. According to the report, the witness who initially called police to report the public consumption of alcohol said that Brodwinske had followed him from the train depot into the fourth floor of the library and that Brodwinske had approached the witness in a menacing manner, telling the man “have a nice day,” which caused the witness to think that Brodwinske was going to retaliate in some way. Brodwinske had reportedly left the scene by the time the responding officer had arrived.

The responding officer then drove to the intersection of Ellinwood and Lee streets, where he reported that he saw Brodwinske and Liberty walking across the street against traffic, without the right of way. The officer arrested Brodwinske and Liberty and transported them to the Des Plaines Police Station.

According to the report, during lock-up procedures at the police station, Brodwinse became angry when asked to remove his jacket and shoes, and proceeded to lock his arms and kick the officer so that his shoes could not be taken off.

Liberty was charged with being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol. Brodwinske was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Police said Brodwinske sometimes spells his last name as Brodowinske, and both names were listed in the arresting report. Police said they were unsure which name was accurate.

Theft

A woman reported to police on Jan. 26 that her wallet was stolen from her purse that day at 1:30 p.m. while she was eating lunch at Potbelly’s Sandwich Shop, 2695 Mannheim Rd. According to the report, the woman told police that while she was eating at Potbelly’s, she hung her purse on a hook on the outside of the booth in which she was sitting. After her meal, when she went to refuel her vehicle at a gas station, she discovered that her black leather wallet was missing from her purse. The woman said the wallet contained $900 in cash, a debit card, a credit card and miscellaneous business cards.
