Maine West Twitter Rumor Found Not Credible

Audrey Haugan, principal at the Des Plaines high school, sent a message to parents on Monday regarding a “safety concern” about a school assembly scheduled for Friday.

A rumor about a “safety concern” at a school assembly scheduled for Friday was determined to not pose a threat to Maine West High School faculty and students, stated Audrey Haugan, principal, in an announcement sent to parents on Monday.

The rumor was circulated on Twitter, Haugan stated, and the source of the tweet was found. Des Plaines police were contacted at the beginning of the school’s investigation into the matter, she stated.

“At this time, we do not feel there is a threat to Maine West or our students, but we continue to investigate any and all reports,” Haugan stated. “The Des Plaines Police Department has agreed to be a presence at Maine West, both in plain clothes and in uniform, throughout the week and at our assembly.”

Haugan stated school officials would continue investigating all rumors and send a message to students about the importance of informing school administrators and faculty about any threats at Maine West High School. The entire statement is posted on Des Plaines high school’s website.
