H&R Block Wins Readers’ Choice Award

Every vote counted in this contest.

With a single poll vote, H&R Block, 1579 Lee St., coasted in to take the 2012 Readers’ Choice award for best place to have income taxes prepared for filing. This location for the financial services chain is located at the corner of Lee and Oakton streets, and is open seasonally from January to July.

Earlier: Two Italian restaurants tie for best food and service.

Scoring an honorable mention was the free tax preparation program run by AARP.

Reader Frances Murray wrote in the comments, “As a senior, I get my taxes done at the Des Plaines library. The AARP sponsors the event and the best part about it is it’s FREE. I understand that there are other locations, such as senior centers, where this service is also provided at no cost. You do not have to be a member of AARP to participate.”

AARP hosts tax preparation sessions for residents at the Des Plaines Public Library on most Tuesdays and Thursdays between February and April. Registration is required, and all of the sessions have been filled for this year.

Visit H&R Block’s website to learn more about its tax preparation services.

Tune in next week when we ask readers to vote for the best pizza in Des Plaines. If you have a nomination for a business, please add it in the comments section below.
