Get Out: Fall Fest, Bike Ride, Campout, More
Des Plaines Patch’s community event calendar lists tons of stuff to do.
Zumba Family Night
When/Where: Sept. 14, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lattof YMCA, 300 E. Northwest Highway in Des Plaines.
Why Go: Bring your family to the Y for some dancing fun. All ages are welcome. Zumba family night will include prizes and snacks. It’s open to the whole community!
Pricing: $5 for individuals; $10 for families.
Fall Fest Family Festival
When/Where: Sept. 14 through Sept. 16 at Lake Park Memorial Pavilion, 2200 Lee St. in Des Plaines.
Why Go: Three days of Family fun, and entrance to the festival grounds and all main stage entertainment is free! Food, beverages, beer, wine and more will be available for purchase.
There will be an adult bags tournament, carnival rides, booths, games, a raffle and more.
Performances on the main stage will include Hi-Fi Superstar, ARRA, Wedding Banned and more.
Pricing: Free admission.
Tour Des Plaines
When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 15, 8 a.m. at Lake Park, Howard Ave & Lee St. in Des Plaines.
Why Go: The Tour Des Plaines Bike Ride will be held in conjunction with Des Plaines Fall Fest, Saturday, Sept. 15. This year’s bike ride entails a nine-mile police-escorted tour of the city starting and finishing at Lake Park, Howard and Lee streets, provides the perfect opportunity for families to have fun while getting exercise.
Pricing: Free.
Backyard Campout
When/Where: From 5 p.m. on Sept. 14 to 10 a.m. on Sept. 15. at the Wildwood Nature Center, 529 Forestview Ave. in Park Ridge.
Why Go: Camp out with your family in the Park District's backyard, outside at the Wildwood Nature Center. Enjoy a campfire dinner and S'mores on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning.
After dinner, and before turning in for the night, say hello to the Wildwood critters, borrow a fishing pole and visit the pond, and enjoy a family friendly movie before turning in for the night. Registration is required.
Pricing: Residents, $10 for ages 2-10, $14 for ages 11 and older. Non-residents, $18 for ages 2-10, $24 for ages 11 and older.
Mega Movie Pajama Night
When/Where: September 14, 2012, 6-9 p.m. at Park Ridge Park District Maine Park Leisure Center, 2701 W. Sibley St.
Why Go: Hey kids ages 4 to 9! Come dressed in your favorite PJs, bring a pillow and blanket, and enjoy an evening of fun! We will play games, enjoy a treat and a great G or PG movie.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to enjoy a quiet Friday evening to themselves. Registration required.
Pricing: $14 for residents; $26 for non-residents.
Park Ridge Farmers' Market
When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 15, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prairie Avenue and Garden Street in Park Ridge.
Why Go: The Park Ridge Farmers' Market features fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, handmade soaps, flowers, potted plants and more.
Pricing: Free.
