Des Plaines Police Sergeant Acquitted of Domestic Battery

Discrimination complaint, misconduct charges were dropped in 2011 settlement.

 

Veteran Des Plaines police Sergeant Matthew Hicks was acquitted of domestic battery charges filed against him in a McHenry County court at the end of June, Journal & Topics Newspapers reported.

Internal misconduct charges filed against Hicks, and a discrimination complaint filed by Hicks against the department in 2010 were all dropped following a settlement agreement between Hicks and the city.

Hicks received a payout of $125,000 as part of the settlement and was approved for a pension.

Hicks said the city handled the whole situation “inappropriately,” the Daily Herald reported.
