A new police chief will likely be sworn in by late July or early August, said Michael Bartholomew, city manager for Des Plaines.
There were 52 applicants and the finalized list is down to six. Bartholomew declined to comment on whether the final six applicants were currently in the Des Plaines department, in Illinois, or from out-of-state.

Most from the original group were from Illinois, some were from outside the state and there was at least one internal applicant, according to an April report in the Daily Herald.
The expected salary ranges from $113,621 to $147,707 and the new chief has to relocate to Des Plaines within 12 months of accepting the position.
