Chicago Man Convicted of Vehicular Hijacking, Robbery, Battery
Convictions follow incidents in 2011 when Larry Hampton attempted to rob a Subway in Des Plaines, assaulted cab driver, stole taxi, according to police.
The Chicago man that attempted to rob a Subway sandwich shop in Des Plaines in last year was convicted of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated robbery and battery on Wednesday, the Daily Herald reported.
, according to a report. . Hampton went inside the restaurant, then returned to the taxi a short time later empty-handed, and asked the driver to take him to the Subway on Miner Street in Des Plaines.

At the Subway on Miner, according to the report, Hampton attempted to rob the employees, going as far as trying to take the cash register with him, police stated.
Hampton fled the restaurant, confronted the taxi driver and stole his keys by tearing open his coat pocket, according to the report. Hampton then took off in the stolen vehicle. An hour later, about 7 a.m., Hampton clipped a school bus with the minivan taxi he was driving and hit a light pole.

Hampton is scheduled to appear at Skokie courthouse on June 8 for sentencing.
