Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Dig 'n ditch

A Northbrook resident reported that someone entered her backyard and dug a trench roughly 6 feet long and one-and-a-half feet wide. 

Behavior check, mate

A Skokie man who coaches chess crashed a private event at the North Shore Chess Center and made "disparaging remarks to local players" and said the center was stealing his potential students, police said. A manager of the center later sent the man an email saying he was not allowed to come back. The man returned and made threats, police said.

Mouthing off

Someone yelled at and threatened a victim about gum implants on backorder in Morton Grove.

When you care enough to steal the very best

Someone tore open a greeting card that was in a Northfield mailbox and removed a $100 gift card from the recipient's sister.

Increased volume of complaint

Police responded to Skokie Village Hall when a man began complaining about a parking ticket. He became loud and argumentative and refused to lower his voice, the report said. Upon exiting, the man opened the door violently, but no damage was caused.
