Find out who is winning the 55th State House District race. Check back here for up-to-date results and information.

In the newly-drawn 55th Illinois House District Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan, Democrat, and first-time political candidate and community activist Susan Sweeney, Republican, squared-off in a heated race that began with campaigning door-to-door for months across the entire district, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Park Ridge and Rosemont.

Patch will update election results and reactions on this page as new information becomes available.

Check out pictures of the Moylan campaign on Nov. 6.

Update 9:49 p.m. - Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten: I thought he was the best fit for Des Plaines and Des Plaines would benefit the most by having him represent the 55th," he said. "Sweeney has zero experience in government. It so happens she is a republican, which I'm not against, but the fact that it's a democratic controlled legislature you're going to get the most from someone who is allied with the current legislature."

Update 9:28 p.m. - Moylan: "We're waiting for the final numbers to come in, the is filled with excitement. The Thing that put me over the top is everybody is hard at work.

"The camp was decided on the issues. I'm like a moderate in this district. People made the decision base.

Update - 8:48 p.m. - With 56 of the 69 precincts reporting, Moylan still has a slight lead, with 15,984 votes compared to Sweeney's 14,730 votes.

Update - 8 p.m. - Marty Moylan has taken an early lead, but it's still too close to call. He currently has 5,584 votes while his opponent, Susan Sweeney, has 5,090. Only 21 of the 69 precincts have reported.

Update - 4:17 p.m. - No numbers have been released from the Cook County Clerk's office, although those numbers should come in soon.

Candidate Percentage Total Vote Precincts Reporting
Marty Moylan 53.32 20,513 73 of 73
Susan Sweeney 46.68 17,959 73 of 73

How can Sweeney espouse family values when she divorced her husband and the ages of her kids don't seem to coincide with the divorce?
