The Willows Academy Soccer Season Ends on a High Note

  • Name: The Willows Academy
  • School or league: Independent School League
  • Team: The Willows Academy Varsity Soccer
  • Award: ISL Champions, IHSA Soccer Class 1A Regional Champions

June 1, 2012  The Willows Academy soccer team left their last game with their heads held high despite a loss to Richmond Burton in the IHSA Class 1A sectional semifinals which officially ended their soccer season. The Eagles finished their season as ISL champions, IHSA Class 1A Regional Champions and with an undefeated record in the regular season.

This year the team will send off seven seniors, four of whom had been starters since their freshmen year. While the team will greatly miss these star athletes the girls are leaving behind a strong example of what hard work, determination and love for the game will get you in the end. Coach Amy McMahon, who was just named ISL Soccer Coach of the Year, is sad to see them go, “I had so many firsts with these girls, first regional championship, and first trip to state. It’s hard to see them leave.”

Senior athlete Monica Hinderer (Arlington Heights) will especially be missed next year. Hinderer as goalie is ending her season with 120 saves and was awarded The Willows Academy’s most prestigious Mangan athletic award – given to an overall outstanding athlete, and was named ISL All Conference goalie.

The Willows Academy sends off their senior athletes with pride and hopes that they can accomplish many more victories in college and life.
