Members of the graduating class of the spring 2012 Senior Citizen Police Academy recently
gathered for a photograph at the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 Northwest Highway, Des Plaines. The Academy included presentations by the Des Plaines Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Evidence Technicians, Tactical Response Team (including “the awesome robot”), and Negotiators. The Des Plaines Police Department is currently preparing to host a twelve week Citizen Police Academy, 6PM – 9 PM, Tuesdays, beginning September 18, 2012, at the
Des Plaines Police Station, 1418 Miner Street. The Citizen Police Academy will include sessions involving the shooting range, an Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Law
overview, domestic violence, traffic stop/felony traffic stop practicals, ride-a-longs with a patrol officer, evidence collection, and many other topics. Participants will interact with many Des Plaines Police Officers throughout the
12 week course, which will culminate with a graduation ceremony/dinner on December 4, 2012. “The Academy provides an opportunity for citizens, and we are hoping to attract many young adults, to get an understanding of the Des Plaines Police Department and its role in the community. The majority of our classes will be held at the Des Plaines Police Station,” Officer Johnson said. Call 847-391-5410 for more information.
