Des Plaines Metropolitan Square Phase 1 Project Kicks Off

The City of Des Plaines Public Works & Engineering Department has announced that Phase 1 of the Metropolitan Square Crosswalk & Replacement Project will begin Monday, June 27, 2011, and last approximately seven to ten days weather permitting.  The work, which involves the removal and replacement of all crosswalk areas in Metropolitan Square in downtown Des Plaines, will require the closure of Market Street, from Lee Street to Pearson Street, as well as the half-moon parking area.

Part of the City’s 2011 Capital Improvements Project, the work is being conducted by MQ Construction and involves the removal and replacement of all crosswalks with longer lasting decorative stamped concrete. Detour signs will direct traffic to the parking garage via Metropolitan Way and the Shop ‘N Save parking lot via Perry Street/River Road.  Work will be conducted from 7 AM – 6 PM, Monday – Friday.  “No Parking” signs will be posted along the construction route as necessary.

Phase Two, requiring the closure of the parking garage entrance on Metropolitan Way, will follow once Market Street can be safely opened to traffic and will necessitate two-way traffic from the Market Street entrance.  The alley between Market Street and Miner Street will remain open to traffic during Phase Two. #
