Des Plaines Electronics Recycling Program

The City of Des Plaines Department of Public Works & Engineering and Acme Refining are partnering for free Electronics Recycling beginning January 4, 2012. Des Plaines residents and businesses may bring items from 8 AM – 3 PM, every Wednesday, to the Public Works facility, 1111 Joseph J. Schwab (Campground) Road.  Acme Refining wipes all computer hard drives to the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) standard. Computers that meet requirements are then refurbished, while unusable equipment is recycled responsibly in accordance with the Illinois Electronics Reuse & Recycling Act.  Beginning January 1, 2012, Senate Bill 2106 (P.A. 97-0287) bans the landfill disposal of many electronic items.

Items will only be accepted during the designated times above.  These include all computer components, phone equipment, hand-held electronics, DVD’s, VCR’s and televisions.  Household appliances (white goods) will not be accepted. For more information, call the City of Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department at 847-391-5464.
