DEEP Green and the Des Plaines Park District Celebrate Earth Day
In celebration of Earth Day 2012, the Des Plaines Park District and the Des Plaines Environmental and Energy Program, (DEEP Green), sponsored the 5th Annual Earth Day Youth Fair on Saturday, April 21, from 1:00-4:00pm at the Cumberland Terrace field house. Over one hundred eco-friendly citizens stopped in to plant blue lake bush beans in peat pots; make craft projects from recycled paper and flour paste; visit with the US Coast Auxiliary Coast Guard to learn about keeping our waterways pollution-free; and add a leaf with green suggestions to the Dream Tree. All participants received a two-foot evergreen tree to take home to plant. "We are so pleased that so many came out to show their support for a greener environment," said Linda Traina, Superintendent of Recreation for the Des Plaines Park District. "You are never too young or too old to learn to reduce, reuse, and recycle." For more information about DEEP Green, visit www.mydeepgreen.org.
