April 2013 Proclaimed Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Acting Mayor of Des Plaines Patricia Haugeberg recently signed a proclamation declaring the month of April 2013 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the City of Des Plaines.  Sexual Assault Awareness Month is intended to draw attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and has public health implications for every community member of the City of Des Plaines.  The Proclamation states that “staff and volunteers of anti-violence programs at Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault encourage every person to speak out when witnessing acts of violence however small.”   The month is recognized on a state and national level.  According to the City’s Proclamation: “The City of Des Plaines strongly supports the dedicated efforts of national, state and local partners, and of every citizen to actively engage in public and private efforts to prevent sexual violence.”  (pictured) Acting Mayor of Des Plaines Patricia Haugeberg signs the Proclamation declaring April 2013 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The signing took place last week in the Office of the Mayor at Des Plaines City Hall.
